Senior Forensic Officer (2 posts)

   Forensic Pathology Service
 
Experience:
Appropriate Forensic (Medico-legal) experience. Appropriate/recognisable experience as a Forensic Pathology Officer Grade 1 and 2.
 
Competencies (knowledge/skills):
Knowledge, application and implementation of regulations policies and standards pertaining to the Forensic pathology process and ability to be trained in forensic investigation and evisceration as well as sound knowledge and understanding of legislation pertaining to Forensic Pathology, the ethical issues in Forensic Pathology, scope of practice and Forensic Pathology standards. Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and solve complex problems in a multi-disciplinary team. Above average communication skills in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape and ability to communicate clearly and discreetly in person and in writing. Above-average computer and software literacy in at least MS Excel and Word.

Minimum educational qualification:
Senior Certificate (or equivalent).
 
Duties (key result areas/outputs):
Supervising staff in the effective and efficient recovery, storage and processing of deceased that includes physically collecting, processing, and safekeeping of corpses, capturing of data/information, exhibits and property from incident scenes. An effective forensic autopsy process rendered in accordance with set standards and guidelines by assisting the forensic pathologist in autopsies (evisceration) and x-raying of corpses. Optimal control of reports and specimens during and after the Forensic Mortuary process including the completion and administration of statements and documentation. Render an efficient support service to the Forensic Pathology Laboratory Manager with regard to the management of the forensic pathology laboratory. Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures at all times. Accurate and comprehensive capturing of data onto the Forensic Pathology services IT system and any other data basis provided by the department. Attend court cases and delivery of testimony when subpoenaed to do so.
 
Note:
The candidate will be subjected to an interview and competency test. Candidates will be subjected to security clearance prior to appointment. Shortlisted candidates may be subjected to a psychometric evaluation. Only officials within the Provincial Government: Western Cape will be considered for this post.
 
Inherent requirement of the job:
Valid Code B/EB driver’s license. Ability to lift and work with corpses (mutilated, decomposed, infectious viruses, etc.). Will be required to wear a uniform. Ability to be trained in forensic investigation and evisceration. Will be required to assist in the planning/training of Major incident exercises as well as involvement in Major incidents. Will be required to work shift duties/office duties and overtime duties. Ability to be trained in 4 x 4 vehicle handling and photography skills.
 
 
 
 
Remuneration:
R 257 508- R 303 339 per annum Annual salary plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer's contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance).
