Professional Nurse Grade 1 to 2 (Specialty: Occupational Health and Safety)

Minimum educational qualification
Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year in Occupational Health.
 
Competencies (knowledge/skills):
Good understanding of the District Health Service (DHS). Knowledge of the ethical and legal framework of the Acts, Regulations, Rules and policies that governs Occupation Health and Safety. Extensive competencies as a nurse/nurse Practitioner Computer literacy skills (Microsoft office)
 
Experience:
Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing. Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years’ appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing. At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognizable experience in Occupation Health.

Note:
No payment of any kind is required when applying for this post. “Candidates who are not in possession of the stipulated registration requirements, may also apply. Such candidates will only be considered for appointment on condition that proof of application for registration with the relevant council and proof of payment of the prescribed registration fees to the relevant council are submitted on or before the day of the interview.” This concession is only applicable on health professionals who apply for the first time for registration in a specific category with the relevant council (including individuals who must apply for change in registration status)” The pool of applications will be considered for similar vacant posts within the Central Karoo District, for a period of 3 months from date of advert. Candidates will be subjected to a practical/oral assessment.
 
Duties (key result areas/outputs):
Provide and maintain an effective Occupational Health and Safety Risk Management programme within the Rural District Support the implementation of the immunization and medical surveillance programmes for staff Ensure an effective provision, coordination, and management of the clinical occupational health services. Ensuring effective administration of the occupational health service. Participate in Health Risk Assessments within the district Assist in the competency and skill assessment, identification of the need and advice on the education and training of staff within the areas of control Maintains a sound Continuous Professional development.
 
Registration with a Professional Council:
Registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse and post-basic qualification in Occupational Health
 
Inherent requirement of the job:
Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s license, and willingness to travel. Appropriate relevant experience in Occupational Health and Safety and the relevant qualifications to practice within.
 
 
 
 
Remuneration:
Grade 1: R 451 533- R 530 376 per annum, Grade 2: R 553 545- R 686 211 per annum (Plus a non-pensionable rural allowance of 12% of basic annual salary) Annual salary plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer's contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance).
