Professional Nurse Grade 1 to 2 (Specialty: Psychiatry)

Minimum educational qualification:
Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. A post–basic nursing qualification, with duration of at least one year, accredited with the SANC in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science.
 
Experience:
Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience in the specific speciality after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification as mentioned above.

Duties (key result areas/outputs):
Provide an optimal, holistic, specialised Nursing Care within set standards and within a professional, legal framework as a Professional Nurse in Mental Health wards/units. Maintain a constructive working relationship with nursing and other stakeholders. Utilise human, material and physical resources efficiently and effectively. Participate in research and training and development of community, staff and students to achieve optimal health care and rehabilitation of Mental Health patients. Assist with administrative duties, e.g. data collation and reporting. Deliver an effective outreach service.
 
Registration with a professional council:
Registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse.
 
Note:
Short-listed candidates may be subjected to a compulsory competency test. Candidates who are not in possession of the required qualification will be appointed into the general stream, and they will be required to obtain the necessary qualification within a predetermined period of time. Candidates who are not in possession of the stipulated registration requirements, may also apply. Such candidates will only be considered for appointment on condition that proof of application for registration to register with the relevant council and proof of payment of the prescribed registration fees to the relevant council are submitted on or before the day of the interview. This concession is only applicable to candidates who apply for the first time for registration in the post basic qualification in: Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science with the South African Nursing Council.
 
Competencies (knowledge/skills):
Sound knowledge and understanding of nursing and health service related acts, legislation, policies and practices. Problem solving, report writing, liaison and facilitation skills. Basic computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and use of Internet. Ability to lift and turn patients, stand for long hours and lift heavy equipment.
 
Inherent requirement of the job:
Willingness to work shifts and after-hours including weekends, public holidays and night duty. Willingness to rotate to other units within the Psychiatry department.
 
 
 
 
Remuneration:
Grade 1: R 451 533- R 530 376 per annum, Grade 2: R 553 545- R 686 211 per annum Annual salary plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer's contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance).
