Professional Nurse Grade 1 to 2 (Specialty: Occupational Health and Safety)

Inherent requirement of the job:
A valid code (B/EB) drivers licence. Ability to communicate in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape, including English.
 
Minimum educational qualification:
Basic R425 qualification (i.e. degree/diploma in nursing and midwifery) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse with Midwifery and Psychiatry. A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with SANC in Occupational Health.
 
Competencies (knowledge/skills):
Good understanding of Occupational Health services rendered at a Healthcare Facility. Knowledge of the ethical and legal framework of the Acts, Regulations, Rules and Policies that governs Occupational Health and Safety. Effective interpersonal, leadership, decision making and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrate a good understanding of people management and financial policies and practices. Practical knowledge of research methodology and Quality Management. Computer skills, communication skills and presentation skills.
 
Experience:
Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. At least 10 years of the period above must be appropriate/recognisable experience in the specific speciality after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification in Occupational Health Nursing Science.

Duties (key result areas/outputs):
Provide and manage a basic Occupational Health Service and refer to appropriate level of care when necessary. Coordinate health promotion and wellness initiatives. Provision of advisory services on OHS matters. Conduct Occupational Health Risk Assessments and develop Quality Improvement Plans in collaboration with Management Team. Ensure legal compliance with Occupational Health Policies, OHS Act and related Statues An effective and efficient administrative system/control for the occupational health service Training in line with OHS Acts and Regulations
 
Registration with a professional council:
Registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse and Midwife.
 
Note:
Shortlisted candidates may be subjected to a competency test. “Candidates who are not in possession of the stipulated registration requirements, may also apply. Such candidates will only be considered for appointment on condition that proof of application for registration to register with the relevant council and proof of payment of the prescribed registration fees to the relevant council are submitted on or before the day of the interview. This concession is only applicable to candidates who apply for the first time for registration in the post basic qualification: in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Critical Care Nursing: Occupational Health Nursing Science.
 
 
 
 
Remuneration:
Grade 1: R 431 265 (PN-B1) -R 497 193 per annum, Grade 2: R 528 696 (PN-B2)- R 645 720 per annum Annual salary plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer's contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance).
